Bronze Plaques - The Genealogical Renovation

An NFFG Service for Your Family's Commemorative Sites

Thinking of renovating? Thinking of purchasing a fridge or sofa? For about the same price, you can place a cast, solid bronze plaque on your home (or other family site), which is permanently registered, and certified by NFFG - Heritage Registry. Do you know of a home which was once in your family, but is not recognized by a plaque? Then may add this home, or your family's ancestral home, to your genealogical base, and tie the home into the history of the local community. The sofa will be in the trash in ten years or so. The plaque will be there for as long as the house is. If you wish to register an ancestral family home connected to your lineage, you may also add a plaque to it, after you obtain the permission of the present owners.

Reject cheap plaques of lesser materials, which are not registered anywhere.

This is the true nature of home - it is the place of Peace; the shelter, not only from injury, but from all terror, doubt and division.

In happy homes he saw the light Of household fires gleam warm and bright.

Plaques are almost a necessity on homes which are used as bed-and-breakfasts. This is because visitors like to bask in the sense of history which is brought by this historical indexing and link with timelessness. Visitors like to ponder over the certificate inside, usually on a wall in the vestibule, which describes the origins and history of the home, and of the lives and dreams of the first owners of the house, in whose beds they are sleeping. The visitors invariably take with them, the brochure which describes the origins of this home where they once stayed while on vacation. You can bring this same sense of depth and history to your own home.

The plaques are cast bronze, and are guaranteed to last 400 years. The one shown is oval in shape, measuring 18 by 22 inches. Mounting hardware is included. The name of the first owner of the house appears on the plaque, with the date of construction. This is information which you can acquire locally. Your own name appears on the permanent certificate and online registration, as the person who registered the site, with the date of registration. The certificate, which bears an embossed, signed, gold Heritage Registry stamp, will state that you are a member of DFNW, if that is the case (but it is to be noted that plaques are not limited to DFNW members).

If the plaque is placed on a home, the certificate describes also the history of the home briefly, and how that history is significant to the community, even though it may not have been a home which history books would record. This history of the home or site must be researched by you. In addition, some biographical information about the first owner must be researched, and this history and biography will be verified by us. The service is only available to homes which are presentable, and at least 75 years old. You may easily do the research at your local archives, or obtain a title search from a lawyer, which goes back to the date when your home was built. We must see a copy of these records, before certifying the plaque and registration - they may be scanned and sent as email attachments, or sent by postal mail. A photograph of the house must also be included.

Your Heritage Home Registration will be available online to vendors and real estate agents when your house is one day sold, and will certainly enhance its resale value. Plaques may also be used on graves, or at entrances to family cemeteries, or at other sites. A Certified Plaque like the one shown above (for the Joseph Eastwood Home, built 1908), with the date of construction and the first owner's name, with certificate and registration, is $575 US, plus shipping by Fedex. Shipping of these heavy plaques is in the range of $50. The plaques are non-refundable and must be prepaid at PayPal or by mailed money order. Additional text may be added, though the size, shape, and weight of the plaque may change, and the cost may increase. This will be pre-arranged by yourself and us by email and probably by telephone. The cost will be about $625 US for your plaque, some of which must be paid in advance. We must walk through this process together. If you are just beginning to think about this but do not wish to commit the investment at this stage, then send a Guaranteed Response Email, which will allow us to start serious discussions - the $25 fee will be applied later against the plaque. Return to the main page of the website, and click on the link to 'Contact Us'. There, you will see how to send a Guaranteed Response Email.

If a plaque is installed at a cemetery, we recommend a graveside dedication ceremony, with clergy in attendance to offer prayers appropriate to the person interred. It will also be of interest to local news media, and coverage should be arranged with them. The resulting article will then also be genealogically traceable by future generations. It is one more footstep which you can make, in the sands of time. We will not live forever. If you do not recognize the site, who will?

Please note that if we must do any on-site research for plaques, or on-site installation, additional costs will be incurred and you will be advised in advance.
