Additional Information

James OGDEN, U.E.L.:

Notes:
OGDEN, JAMES (page 127)

Of South River, New Jersey. When, in 1781, a considerable part of the Pennsylvania Line became discontented, he acted as a guide of the emisary, John Morris, who was sent by Sir Henry Clinton to seduce them (satisfy their discontent), Instead of meeting the overture, they surrendered Ogden and and his associate to General Wayne; and January 10th, both were tried as spies, convicted, and hung the next day, "at the Cross Roads, from the upper ferry from Trenton to Philadelphia, at the four lane ends." The Court of Inquiry was ordred by Lord Stirling, and consisted of Generals Wayne and Irvine, Colonels Butler and Stewart, and Major Fishbourn.
