Additional Information

Jane RIPLEY:

Notes:
Jane Ripley was baptized at Ingleby Greenhow, Yorkshire, England, on April 14 1772, according to parish records, but on the gravestone that marks her grave in the pioneer cemetery at West Amherst, Nova Scotia, it states that she died July 27, 1843, age 70 years. This would mean Jane would have been born in 1773. (I suspect that that the error is in in the grave marking - R.R, September 2000). She married Robert Coates, born 1773, died 1817. He is buried at West Amherst, N.S.. They resided at Crawford's Hill (West Amherst-Nappan area). Further proof that Jane Ripley (1773-1843) is the daughter of Robert Ripley is in his will and other records...... from the Jan 9 1982 issue of Coates' article, as cited.

Jane is referred to as Jenny by her father in his will: 'Jenny (Jane) Coates'. She received the sum of five pounds, English money. This was the same inheritance which her married sister Margaret received, but less than her younger unmarried sister Easter Ripley, who received 60 pounds. Date of the will was September 11, 1797.
