If someone in your family tree is found in the NFFG online Family Files...

Welcome, cousin.
The fact that you have arrived here, means that someone else has contributed the family records to which you are linked. The contributor may be closely related to you. The process by which contributed records are found at this website, is a type of online microscope into the past. We call it 'genealogical forensics', though of course, it is much 'art' as well as 'science'. As each new member joins and contributes records, it becomes more science. This process may be the best we have. The science of DNA testing has proven to be a false hope, with many dead ends. Using DNA, known brothers are sometimes found to be unrelated! We use contributed records and test them against known VR records, Bible notes, diaries, historical records, and more. It's a teamwork approach, by people who want to get it right. Join and contribute records: it will help YOUR search, and help build the science of family genealogy. This is the largest online contributory website, of this type, on the web.

NFFG no longer recommends DNA testing for genealogical purposes. Such testing has often been shown to fail when compared against known family ancestry. The more generations back one hopes to track, the higher the percentage of likely failure, until the direct line is a 100% failure. Sometimes, a group of cousins with known common roots, joins a DNA testing service, with hopes of confirming their research. The testing is done, and results are in. In some examples, two family lines appear to prove an ancestry, and disprove a third line which was thought to be of the same family. Yet, the two positive results may in fact be wrong, and the third may be the correct one. DNA testing will not help solve the problem. Examine the televised failure to confirm Oprah Winfrey's proven ancestry, or read Megan Smolenyk's story of failure to confirm known descendants of civil war skeletons; or read NFFG's analysis by clicking here. One day, DNA testing may be able to help in the search for descendants, but the time has not yet arrived (2008). For the time being, the traditional method, of professional genealogical analysis, is the best option. NFFG uses traditional methods.
If you join NFFG and contribute your records, it will also be an altruistic gesture. You will help other contributors complete their own family research. That is what family based genealogy (Cluster Genealogy, DNA and Surname based genealogy) is all about. You will not only help that contributor, but you will add new surnames and valuable family links.
Many others may be searching for their family roots. This is very important to some people - people just like you. By joining, you gain access to NFFG archives, under the directions of our genealogists; and you gain free copy rights to our online family tree.
By joining NFFG, you will become a registered contributor, and a friend to your genealogical cousins.
If you have found some missing persons or details in the NFFG family records, then you may correct the error by joining NFFG and submitting your proof, or the reason you think the record is incorrect.
